Are you after an eye-popping luxury motorhome with a 200K discount? Words and photographs by Paul Hutchinson This Majestic Motorhome has been commissioned by Les & Faye MacNee. Their faces are displayed in a huge comical picture on the rear of the van. The mural says "Les’s Dream and Faye’s Nightmare". Apparently Les couldn’t wait to get the motorhome and Fay wasn’t that sure. When it was completed Fay nicknamed it the Beast and that name sits proudly on the front of their RV. Les and Faye provided Majestic with an older style Mercedes 0303 bus. Photos of the old girl and today’s Beast just do not compare. Majestic firstly stripped down the unit to a bare chassis rail and engine. Then they began the arduous process of building a brand new unit above. They rust proofed the chassis, built a new frame for the motorhome, lined the outside, then commenced the internal fit out. Customers are heavily involved in the design process with Majestic's owners Lyle and Nicole. The process takes about 8 months to complete, and when it is finished there is almost nothing of the original unit left to see. The customers have to shell out $350K - $450K to rejuvenate an old bus, whereas a new one would be in the range of $550-$650K, depending on the fit out. As they say, you get what you pay for, and this unit is no exception. Just a side note - we discovered that Majestic are also the manufacturers for the Gipsy Trailers. These are a terrific idea for towing your car behind the motorhome. EXTERNAL A simple word to describe this RV is stunning. The Majestic has a striking paint job that gives the unit a very commanding presence on the road. Customers can choose any colour they like; this one is a combination of black, silver, white and blue. The Majestic RV has an abundance of storage on the outside - 4 bins on one side, 6 on the other, and they are huge. You simply will never match this storage in a conventional caravan or motorhome. Motorhomes are built on a vehicle chassis and do not have the weight constrictions of a caravan. This unit was thirteen tonne, which is far more than a car and caravan combination would ever be. The windows are all tinted black and match in beautifully with the paintwork. This unit is a single axle at the rear and requires an MR driver’s licence. There is a Saturn TV antenna on the roof, and an Aussie Traveller awning on the side. The lounge sits in a slide out unit that protrudes from the RV on the driver's side. The motorhome has been built in solid box channel framing, including the roof section. The walls are all sheet steel and the roof and walls are fully insulated with batts. The Majestic carries 700 litres of fresh and grey water, and rides on airbag suspension for a very smooth ride. On board are 6 x 160W solar panels feeding 12 batteries to supply power for a full week of use. INTERNAL The Majestic is just as impressive on the inside as it is on the outside. The clean lines of smooth white furnishings attract your hand to wipe over them and caress the cupboards. Again, here is a finish we don’t see in the caravan market due to weight constrictions. The driver's compartment is standard, and this unit was old Mercedes, not a new one. Customers may order their motorhomes with a new vehicles included. The driver's and passenger's seats are all new, very comfortable and match the rest of the unit. We then move into the lounge dinning area. The lounge slides out to allow much greater space inside the RV. The lounge is very comfortable and my son was ready to lie down and have a sleep watching TV. The two swivel chairs near the table were also extremely comfortable. The table was fixed to the wall giving you a good support to help the aging backs when standing up. The entertainment units are located over the driver's seats facing the lounge area. This includes a television, DVD player and CD/radio with surround sound. The kitchen is every cook’s dream, easy to clean, well laid out and with all the comforts of home. It's better than some holiday homes and units I have stayed in over the years. There is a full oven, a microwave, and even a large two door domestic fridge hidden behind a solid door. The bench tops are smooth and there are drawers everywhere. The push button catches are unique in this motorhome. They require a push button to active them, followed by a turn of the handle. This means if you have not closed the push buttons, the doors will still not come open without a turn of the handle. They are magnificent. The RV has a diesel heater to keep you warm and ducted reverse cycle air conditioning to keep you cool. The bedroom has loads of storage and there was an island queen bed to sleep on. There is of course an innerspring mattress, and storage underneath. As these are hand built, customers can order a mattress to match that which they have at home. When we proceed to the ensuite, we find a large shower, toilet, washing machine and lovely big hand basin. The toilet is a Dometic Vacuum Flush, which is ideal for the motorhome. Nothing has been left out of the Majestic. If you have it at home, you have room for it here. No wonder why people love motorhomes. WORTH BUYING With the ability for the customer to input into every decision made on the motorhome, the Majestic has to be on the buyer's short list. Majestic cater for people on different budgets and to as many layout combinations as the chassis will sustain. The Majestic is not a budget priced motorhome, but it has impeccable build quality, superior frame work, and solid interior fit out. If you're looking for a motorhome of class, quality and custom build then the Majestic is a must see!
