CAMPING WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND by Family Parks

A camping holiday with your best friend in tow can be a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Dogs are thrilled to have new experiences and will love exploring your campsite and the surrounding areas. Pet-friendly Family Parks have some useful tips to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable trip with your four-legged friend.

Pet packing: Just as you would pack all the necessary items you need for the trip, don't overlook what your pet may need to keep it comfortable and happy. Being prepared with its favourite bed, toys, bones and dishes is the key to ensure a happy time for everyone. Don’t forget plenty of plastic bags and a pooper scooper!

Travel ID: Create a travel identification tag for your dog and remember to include the name of the park where you are staying and a contact number.

Camp site: Your pooch will need a shady spot to relax in during the heat of the day or while hanging out at the campsite.

Safe spot: Be sure that your dog always has access to fresh air, clean water and comfortable bedding in a place where it will feel safe.

Group activities: Plan activities the whole family (and your dog) can enjoy together. It’s no fun being tied up at the campsite when everyone else is off having fun.

Make friends: Socialising is important for your dog, take it around to meet its fellow furry friends at neighbouring campsites.

Chill out: Remember to create ‘down time’ for your dog. Your dog needs some quiet time to relax just like you.

Clean up: Remove any leftover food after your dog eats so your campsite doesn’t attract unwanted insects or wildlife.

First aid: You will need to add some extra items to your first aid kit to cater for your dog. These items might include tea tree oil for insect bites, tweezers or vinegar for jellyfish stings.
