Double Cross by James Patterson

Double Cross is James Patterson’s latest installment to the Alex Cross detective series of novels. I have been reading them for around 10 years now. I have enjoyed them, but when I got to the end of Double Cross, I was frustrated.

Nothing was achieved, except to create the opportunity for yet another Alex Cross book where is he hunted by his worst enemy and he tries to stay one step ahead of the evil character.

I do like Patterson’s writing style, and I churn through his books eagerly. They are gripping, entertaining and easy to read. But I am not sure if I will continue with the Cross saga. It just seems to have been going on for far too long now.

Piece of My Heart by Peter Robinson

Crime novels are probably my favourite style of books at the moment, and I read another good one recently. Piece Of My Heart is an easy read and one of many books in the Inspector Banks series.

When a freelance writer turns up dead after being bludgeoned to death with a poker, Inspector Banks's smarts are called upon to get to the bottom of his murder. The detective soon discovers links to a case more than three decades earlier, which leads him on a nostalgic journey through the times of hippies, drugs, and huge music festivals.

It's a very decent read that I quite enjoyed.

Chronicles:Volume 1 by Bob Dylan

I read this autobiography in the hope of uncovering a little dirt in Bob Dylan’s private life, but unfortunately came away empty handed. Most people know how much of a recluse he is, and his book is no different. You find out halfway through the book, that he is married, although no names or how they met are mentioned. He does recount his personal journey through folk music though, which I think only devoted musos or those interested in music history will appreciate. Not highly recommended.
